Aquamid 

 is a new generation of filler. It is a permanent filler where the volume of the implant is given by water not from a solid product. Aquamid is a dermal filler that can be used deep in the tissues to provide volume and contour changes. It is being sucessfully used to fill lips, deep grooves and furrows and add volume to the cheek and chin areas.

Because Aquamid is designed to go deeper into the tissue it is not useful for superficial wrinkles, which is where other non-permanent fillers are beneficial. In the lips and nasolabial folds however, Aquamid is being used in a similar fashion to other dermal fillers. Up until now the most popular dermal fillers have been non-permanent reabsorbed by the body after as little as 3-6 months. While these fillers will always have a place, there are some patients who wish to gain a permanent result.
